Political activist and Rapper Immortal Technique

Immortal Tech is relevant to this blog since he is also a activist, social commentator and has had somewhat of an influence over my work. He’s American, born in Harlem New York where race issues are strife. His music is very controversial, he talks about third world poverty, social class, government policies and racism. Not to forget to mention he is his own label so has never signed onto a company to help distribute his records. In fact he’s all for free downloading, he believes music should be free. My fav Immortal Tech song is definitely this one, “Angels and Demons”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KiQaqu9x8B8

I went to his concert for the first time last year in October and I also got a picture taken with him and my phone signed. Yes, I’m a hardcore fan, I’ve got nothing but utmost respect for this political rapper.

Today he is performing at Yoko Ono’s meltdown at Southbank!

I also got to see Lowkey last year at Immortal Technique’s concert!!!!!! Which was a bit of a dream come true for me! (Although I was not very familiar with both him and Immortal Tech’s music last year at that time.) He went on stage for a good 40 minutes or so as a support act. Lowkey is a English political rapper, he mostly raps about the Palestinians and the prosecution they have faced. Lowkey is well known for his song Terrorist: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmBnvajSfWU

If you are an activist or into politics I recommend you check them both out. They are both very passionate about what they do and they both rap about having empathy for your fellow human beings which is something we sort of lack today. Lowkey’s last album is very emotional I cry everytime I listen to it. Immortal Tech’s music makes me angry haha, the anger in his music pretty much rubs off on me.
